I like this kid. He's not reticent, he actually might be able to give the Blazer's a little more swagger.

  1. This is Snave (Johnny Evans) talking at you from the wild wilds of NE Oregon. I didn't realize you were a big Blazer fan! I have been one of those from the inception of the franchise up through the championship year, the Drexler/Porter years, the Jail Blazer years, and now the resurgence of the too-long dormant RIP CITY!!!

BTW, I found your blog from the link you posted in the comment section at OregonLive.com. Come check out mine sometime if you have the chance. Check out the "archives" section for photos and writeups about my Sasquatch Music Festival experience in late May. Anyway...

I have to agree with anybody who says Kevin Pritchard is something of a genius! I was totally excited about draft day for the couple of weeks prior, just wondering what tricks KP might have up his sleeve this time, practically dying for the draft to happen. While I was disappointed the Blazers picked Rush, I still had thoughts that their astute GM might have it in mind to trade for some higher guard like Westbrook or Bayless.

In doing the Bayless deal, Pritchard didn't really degrade the team at all. I think he made it better, and those are the kinds of trades fans like. It was basically a swap of one solid ballplayer for another (Bayless for Rush, with Bayless being more what the team needed)... But then to basically get Ike Diogu for Josh McRoberts? Heh! It's minor, but I still think it rates as a steal.

Getting to pick Greg Oden last year as the franchise center was amazing. All he has to do this next season is average about 10 points, 10 boards and a few blocks each time out and he will have been worth it. He should only get better, and I think he can develop into something like a Bill Russell. Roy is a stud, and the potential of LMA is incredible. The thought of a lineup of Oden and Aldridge underneath, Bayless and Roy at PG and SG and an athletic guy like Outlaw or a shooter like Webster, or someone who can be both, like the Fernandez kid apparently can... it's enough to make me think the Blazers will be a regular in the playoffs for the next decade.

Pritchard has not only restored integrity to the franchise, he has made it the envy of the entire NBA. It has been a long time coming. How much happier and excited can Blazers fans be?

If I lived in Portland, I would have been at some bar watching the draft with other Trail Blazers fans, and probably dancing in the streets afterward. I know, too early to be acting like the team has just won a championship, but you know, I think there might be some championships in the next decade.

    And, nice blog Brendan!

  2. Kind of ironic, though, when you think of it. Rip City was RIP for awhile.
